Level 7

Religious Education Curriculum
Church of Saint Katharine Drexel
Theme: Growing in Faith, Character, and Relationship with Christ

The Level 7 Religious Education curriculum is designed to accompany our young adolescents as they grow in faith, self-understanding, and their relationship with God. As students experience the changes and challenges of early adolescence, this program helps them recognize that these moments are part of God’s plan for their development as faithful, responsible, and loving disciples of Jesus.

Part I: The Human Person – Journeying Toward Maturity
Theme:
Our growth and changes during adolescence are part of God's plan to help us become mature, Christian individuals.

Objectives:

  • To nurture a healthy sense of self-worth and dignity, rooted in the knowledge that each person is loved by God.
  • To introduce the Christian virtues—such as honesty, kindness, and courage—that guide us to live with goodness and faith.

Part II: Jesus and the Gospel Message – Journeying as a Disciple of Jesus
Theme:
Jesus is revealed in the Gospels as our Savior and Risen Lord who calls us to follow Him and build His Kingdom.

Objectives:

  • To deepen understanding of the four Gospels—how they were written, their central themes, and what they teach us about Jesus.
  • To help students encounter Jesus in a personal way through Scripture and to begin applying His message in their daily lives.

Part III: The Sacraments – Nourishment for the Journey
Theme:
The Sacraments are signs of Jesus’ love and presence among us, helping us grow in holiness and stay connected to the Church.

Objectives:

  • To help students recognize the Sacraments as ways Jesus continues to work in our lives through the Church.
  • To encourage meaningful participation in the Sacramental life, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation.

Part IV: Human Sexuality – Journeying Toward Wholeness
Theme:
Sexuality is a sacred gift from God that includes our body, mind, heart, and spirit. Learning to respect this gift helps us become the whole and holy people God calls us to be.

Objectives:

  • To foster appreciation of human sexuality as a gift that reflects God's love and purpose for our lives.
  • To encourage healthy, respectful attitudes about sexuality, based on Church teachings and values.
  • To guide students in understanding how this gift can be misused and why respect for oneself and others is essential.

This curriculum supports our parish’s mission of forming young people in the Catholic faith with compassion, truth, and love. Through classroom discussions, prayer, community, and reflection, our Level 7 students are prepared to grow in confidence—not only in who they are, but in who God is calling them to become.
